Rusted or dented bottom section — one panel, not a door — across Hackensack, Teaneck, Englewood, Fort Lee, Ridgefield Park, Paramus, Leonia, Bogota.
A bumper tap in a tight driveway, a plough-thrown block of ice, a bottom edge that has finally corroded through — one bad section can make a solid door look finished. Usually it is not. If the frame, tracks and remaining sections are sound we replace the damaged panel alone: profile, gauge and colour matched to the run, hinges and struts transferred or upgraded, and the door back to full structural strength the same visit.
The bottom section is nearly always the one that goes here, and it goes from inside the channel outward. Brine-laden slush sits in that channel for months and the retainer that holds the seal traps it against bare steel. By the time rust shows on the face the section is compromised, and it is the section the lifting brackets anchor to — so it is structural, not cosmetic. Replacing it with a new galvanised retainer and seal is the repair that saves the door.
Tight driveways add a second cause that this county produces more of than most: impact. Where a garage sits at the end of a narrow drive between two houses, the margin for error reversing in is small, and a corner clip that would be nothing in a wide suburban driveway creases a section here. It is a good argument for keeping the opener's safety reverse properly set and for not living with a door that already sits crooked in its opening.
Frame, tracks, struts and neighbouring sections checked — and the corrosion probed rather than glanced at.
Profile, gauge and colour sourced, one exact number approved before ordering.
Damaged panel out, new panel in, hinges and struts transferred, new galvanised seal and retainer fitted.
Weight change means re-tension — the door is balanced and cycled before we call it done.
