Englewood divides sharply. The East Hill, up toward the Palisades, holds large early-century houses on wooded grounds — stone, stucco and brick, many with carriage houses and detached garages built as part of the original estates. Below Dean Street the city is denser and busier, with a genuine downtown and a much more mixed housing stock.
The East Hill is where our most careful work is. Original carriage garages with masonry openings, timber headers a century old, and dimensions no modern standard matches — fitted properly, that means measuring the building at multiple points and shimming to it rather than forcing a door into it. Architectural expectations are high and often there is an architect or a property manager involved, so we specify in writing. Down the hill the work is ordinary residential and small-commercial, and the contrast inside one city is genuinely useful: we load the truck for both.
