Teaneck is the large township just east of us, laid out in the 1920s through 1940s with deep lots, mature street trees and row after row of brick and stucco colonials and Tudors. What defines it for our trade is the driveway: long, narrow, and running the full depth of the lot to a detached garage at the back.
Those driveways change every part of the job. The garage is far from the house, so remote range and an outside keypad matter in a way they never do on an attached garage. The wiring run to the opener is long and usually decades old. Snow has to be cleared the full length before we can even reach the door in winter. And the garages themselves were built for one car of 1930s dimensions — many have been widened or deepened since, and a converted opening needs its header, track spacing and spring system properly re-sized rather than the original hardware stretched across it.
